Square Mariposa Lily
The Square Mariposa Lily is a wonderfully variable flower. Normally white with a wide variety of possible markings, I know of one place where it blooms a solid wine-red color. I found this beautiful specimen on the edge of that area. It gets it's name from the yellow-orange square mark deep inside each petal, the one surrounded with the dark red hairs. Hard to see in this low-resolution internet-friendly image. Calochortus venustus (Lily family)
