Davidson's Fritillary
Some time after I got into photographing wildflowers I found this one by accident. In fact, I almost stepped on it! Lucky I was watching the ground, and jerked my foot aside just in time. I was intrigued by the wonderfully unusual colors. I did not know that green and/or brown flowers existed. This flower set me off on a rampage, searching for more such-colored flowers. It usually is found on ground which is covered in pine needles, hence the other popular name: Pinewoods Fritillary, and the scientific name: Fritillaria pinetorum (Lily family)
