Claret-Cup Cactus


Most cactus species produce spectacular flowers. With all those spines as protection, the plant does not need to hide. But since everyone has learned to stay away, it presumably has to have a specially inviting flower to lure someone in to pollinate it. Echinocerus triglochidiatus (Cactus family)
