Carrizo Plain
Most of the year this place is so hot and dry that nothing can grow. You will not even see any scrub bushes, and the nearby lake is dry. But what a wonderful thing a little winter rain does. First the land turns green. Then vast carpets of flowers bloom. These yellow flowers are called Goldfields. The reason for the name should be obvious. They are small, thumbnail sized sunflowers.
