Springtime
These lakes lie at over 11,400 feet elevation in the Kern River headwaters. I was able to see fifteen lakes from this vantage point. I was very surprised to get here in mid-June and find the snow gone and the lakes thawed. Usually this is the time of year when the lakes are just beginning to thaw out, and there is still a fair bit of snow on the ground. Either last winter's snowfall was light, or the weather warmed up more than normal early in the year and melted it very fast. Or both....
