John's Nature Pictures

Those rocks in the foreground are the north summit of Split Mountain, at 14,058' above sea level. Way over there is the spectacular wall of the south summit. This view is looking along the Sierra Crest, with the Owen's Valley on the left. It was calm and about 70° up here, and about 30° warmer down there where my car was. Later I found out it was 119°F in Woodland Hills, CA, on this same day - that's right down the street from where I live! Yikes!! The mountains are better.
