Red Rocks Canyon


This part of the Mojave Desert was formed over millennia by lava flows. The different colored layers are from different types of volcanic action. The activity is triggered by the collision of tectonic plates in the earth's crust. The North American plate is crashing into the Pacific plate. Later erosion carved out this nice pattern for us to see.
