California Poppy

So you're driving down the highway and you see this big patch of orange off in the distance, like, twenty or thirty miles away. It is just another field of Poppies! These things are all over the place! Is there any wonder why this is California's State Flower? The flowers are big and bold. Nearly every one is the same wonderful color which matches the blue sky perfectly. They grow wild and natural like this. With a good telescope you could probably see this field from the moon. A little orange dot on a big blue planet.   California Poppy is, if you can pronounce it:  Eschscholzia californica   (Poppy family)
