This is a rare and protected critter, it is illegal to interfere with them. This one happened to walk past our campsite, and posed for some pictures. Notice his green lips, caused by pigging out on all the spingtime goodies. They are also known as Gopher Turtles, but Tortoise is the correct name for land turtles.   Gopherus agassizi
